Whether you need help getting online, want to explore our fantastic range of digital resources, or are looking to brush up on your IT skills, we’re here to help every step of the way. From free Wi-Fi and computer access to one-to-one volunteer support and regular drop-in sessions, there’s plenty on offer. Come in and see us — no question is too small!

Computers & Free Wi-Fi

Stay connected when you visit us! Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the library, and we have a range of computers and digital resources to help you get online.

Our Computer Suite

We have seven desktop computers available for library members to use, including one with an attached scanner. Booking ahead is easy — just ask at the desk or give us a call to reserve your session.

How Much Does it Cost?

Your first hour is completely free. After that, a small charge applies — just ask a member of staff for details.

Need a Little Extra Time?

Additional free computer time is available if you need it. This includes support for:

  • People whose computer use is significantly affected by a physical or cognitive difficulty
  • Anyone seeking work or claiming Universal Credit

Just speak to a member of staff and we’ll be happy to help.

Online Resources

Library computers also give you access to a fantastic range of online resources provided by North Yorkshire Libraries. Many of these can also be accessed from home, though some are only available on our in-library computers.

For full details, take a look at our Computer & Internet Use guide.

IT Help & Digital Support

Need a hand with technology? You’re in the right place! Whether you’re filling in an online form, getting to grips with a new device, or looking to build your confidence online, we’re here to help.

One-to-One Help from Our Volunteers

Some of our fantastic volunteers are on hand to offer friendly, patient guidance with a range of IT needs, including:

  • Completing online forms
  • Improving your general IT skills
  • Getting started with a new tablet, smartphone, or device

Just ask at the desk and we’ll match you up with the right support.

Weekly IT Drop-In Sessions

Every Monday during term-time, we host a free IT drop-in session from 2pm to 3pm. Pop in with your device and one of our helpers will do their best to get you sorted — no appointment needed!

IT Courses & Workshops

We regularly host short IT courses and one-off sessions delivered by specialist outside providers, covering a range of topics to help you stay connected and confident online. Keep an eye on our website, Facebook page, and the noticeboard in the library for upcoming dates.

Information & Local Resources

Got a question? We love a good enquiry! Our team is used to helping with all kinds of research and information needs, and we have a surprising range of resources right here in the library to help you find what you’re looking for.

Research & Reference

Our library holds a reference collection, a wide range of non-fiction books, and free access to the internet. We’re also proud to offer free in-library access to:

  • Ancestry.com — perfect for exploring your family history
  • Which? magazine — for independent consumer advice and reviews

Just ask at the desk to get started with either of these.

Local History

We have a wonderful collection of local history books and a dedicated archive of files about Stokesley, lovingly compiled by the Stokesley Local History Group. Whether you’re tracing your roots or simply curious about the town’s past, it’s a fascinating resource.

Newspapers & Magazines

We receive The Gazette daily and the Darlington & Stockton Times every week. We also have a selection of donated magazines available in our refreshment area — a great excuse to sit down with a cuppa! Visitors are welcome to make themselves a tea or coffee for a small donation.

Community Information

Looking for what’s on locally or how to access services in the area? We keep an up-to-date collection of leaflets, posters, and information on:

  • Local events and activities
  • Community services and how to access them
  • Educational courses and opportunities
  • Local bus and train timetables

If you can’t find what you need, just ask — we’re always happy to help point you in the right direction!
