Children

There’s so much to discover for children and young people at Stokesley Community Library! From storytelling and coding to chess and reading challenges, we’ve got something to spark every child’s curiosity and imagination.

Friday Pre-School Storytime — Ages 0 to 5

Every Friday, we host a fun, free storytelling session packed with stories, crafts, and music for little ones aged 0 to 5. Carefully prepared and led by our dedicated and experienced volunteers, it’s a wonderful morning out for children and a great chance for parents and carers to relax and socialise too. No booking needed — just turn up and join in!

Code Club — Ages 9 to 13

Every Monday during term-time from 4pm to 5pm, our Code Club gives young people the skills and confidence to explore the exciting world of coding. Participants learn to design and build their very own online games in a supportive, inclusive, and friendly environment. A brilliant way to build digital skills for the future!

Chess Club — All Ages & Abilities Welcome

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned player, our Chess Club is open to everyone! Drop in every other Tuesday from 3pm to 5pm for a relaxed and sociable game. A great way to sharpen your mind and make new friends.

Summer Reading Challenge

Every summer, we take part in this fantastic free nationwide adventure that encourages children to read six library books over the summer holidays. Each year brings an exciting new theme, with fun rewards like stickers and secret codes to collect along the way. Every book counts — from comics to audiobooks — and children who complete the challenge earn a well-deserved medal. It’s the perfect way to keep young imaginations buzzing and make the long summer break fly by!

Buzzy Bee's Honey Hunt — Ages 0 to 5

Our littlest library lovers can take part in this free North Yorkshire Libraries reward scheme, designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading from the very earliest age. Children aged 0 to 5 collect stickers on a special card every time they borrow books and visit the library, working towards earning their very own colourful achievement certificates. A lovely way to celebrate every little reader’s journey!

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for a whole range of one-off activities for children in the library!
